Saudi Arabia points system

The goal of Saudi Arabia Points System for traffic violations is to reduced the traffic incidence in the Kingdom.

According to the report published on ARAB NEWS, the Saudi Arabia Points System policy for traffic violations will help reduce traffic violations up to 90 percent. The Saudi Arabia traffic department stated that imposing penalties alone to traffic violators was not effective because reckless drivers will simply pay for the fines and then will go back on the road and repeat the same violations again. With this new policy, violators license may be revoked temporarily or permanently if continuously violating traffic rules.

How Saudi Arabia Point System Works?

In pursuant to this Saudi Arabia Points System policy for traffic violations, aside from cash penalties, a certain point will be registered to the drivers record every time it commit violations. These points will be accumulated to the drivers record up to one year and if it reaches 24 points, license will be suspended as follows:

  1. First offence. If the violator got (24) points for the first time within one Hijri year, the driver’s licence will be revoked for three months.
  2. Second offence. If the violator got (24) points for the second time within one Hijri year, the driver’s licence will be revoked for six months.
  3. Third offence. If the violator got (24) points for the third time within one Hijri year, the driver’s licence will be revoked for one year.
  4. 4th offence. If the violator reaches (24) points for the fourth time within one Hijri year, the driver’s licence will be revoked permanently.

The points is based on the nature of the violations and the danger it represents to the traffic safety.
